What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Dogstar Poets, Off Planet; if you're a fan of the original Jade Warrior (Poets Glyn Havard and David Duhig were JW members), Jimi Hendrix or early Pink Floyd, you might like this. Not sure how available it is (they put it out themselves IIRC), but an ambitious Internet trawl should find you a copy.

Jeff
Apologies for the late reply.
It's a double cd on Polydor. The recordings were made in California and london in the summer of '73. 10 tracks on disc 1 and 8 on disc2. The songs are all from the albums of that era, Moondance, St Dominic's preview etc. which I reckon was some of his finest work. The sound quality is pretty good and I think the performances are exellent. But $58...I guess it is out of print at the moment but that seems pretty steep.

Thanks for the info, Chris, I'll keep my eyes open and my patience under control (at least for a little while)

This must be one of the very best albums released in that rather lacklustre decade known as the 80s. It would have been good in any decade.

Nice album indeed ROTF.

How does Humming By the Flowered Vine compare to Laura Cantrell's other albums? I have a couple I like.

Hi Matt

The essential style is there - no change in direction. I think the songs are a little sadder than on her previous albums and the production is more evident. Nonetheless, there's plenty to enjoy here from the mixture of Laura's own songs and some covers that she has carefully selected (not songs I had known before). It's a nice mix of country and folk.

I think if you like her first couple of albums then you'll like this too. I do.

Thanks. I have just ordered a copy along with some John Hiatt to fill some gaps in my collection.
