What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Shades of the great Shirley Collins and thoroughly recommended - Lisa Knapp is another of fine young band of British folk artists. Not only a great singer, writer and arranger, but she plays some stunning fiddle as well as guitar, banjo, drums and autoharp. A right clever so-and-so if you ask me ....

Cold War Kids- Robbers and Cowards.
Very good actually but takes a few listens. The singe sounds a little like the guy from Maroon 5, but the music is definitely better.

Hi Matt
I have this album and think it is one of her best, but I think the CD seems as if it were cut at too higher volume. Everything seems loud - I'm sure there should be more dynamics.
I don't find this with any of MCC's other CDs, which are are beautifully engineered. This is the same whether I play The Calling on my Naim rig or on AV system (Linn CMS) - so it does seem a characteristic of the particular CD I have.
Have you found this? Perhaps I just have a CD from a duff batch and it is worth changing it.
Many thanks, Rotf

She not only has a fantastic voice, but her cds well the two i have are very well produced.
Whats your Jap import like?
Munch
Hi Munch,
This is it.

Very good, but as you say - they all tend to be. I think the others are US copies.
That's Live is also well captured.

The Terminator (the Definite Edition) OST - Brad Fiedel.
The disc was selected by my 19yr old son who has spent a lot of time recently uploading many of my albums onto his player prior to returning to Uni.
I haven't played this CD in a while - it's a little too electronic for my taste for general playing but at the right time it is very very good. Though when you hear that main theme kick in ... and the gentle electric piano renditions, too, you can't get enough of it.
I'll probably go for some Rachmaninov next - I haven't heard the glorious Trio Elegiaques in quite some time.

Good morning ROTF:
I actually thought to myself that the cd was cut at a higher than normal level while I was listening last night. You probably do not have a duff cd.
