What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

A collection of viola works by Britten, Vaughan-Williams, Bridge, and the like. Music for the onset of Autumn.
One of several dozen Helios CDs available at my local Virgin for £4 each.

Haim,
it is very much to my (now) liking. My first contact with the Goldbergs were through the later Gould interpretation. Many, many moons ago. Since I have been confronted with some of George's (Fredrick) comments, I have bought quite a number of versions of the Goldbergs. And while still not being on the very "orthodox" side, I have discovered the joy of a less "playfull" interpretations. Hewitt plays them not in a boring way, at all, but also doesn't try to be "funny". All in all, one of my favs, now. After all, I have also found piano (or hartpsichord) pieces that "give" me more, as music...
Now (another one, you might like, Haim):
cheers
Stefan
