What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

That's the one Dave Alvin disc I never really got my head around. Will have to give it another go Matt. It'S maybe one of those that's a grower on me. You should pop onto his web site and get the live disc that was only available at shows. Personally I love it.

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out.

Seems YEPROC may have actually released the disc now. It's the one called the Great American etc.

I actually have that disc here at work. I think I will listen to it this morning.

Before the days of CD I occasionally bought an album because I liked the sleeve picture. Not quite the same effect with CD but the image on this album posted by Graham Russell a while back prompted me to listen to samples. Great stuff from Sam Newton Battenburg Faulkner.

Much as I admire this pianist, her style simply isn't suited to the Hammerklavier, or even the op.101.

I thought that, thanks for the warning.
On the other hand I suppose, that you - like I - are going to acquire Paul Lewis´ vol. III in the LvB series.

Huw,

Though she never possessed a spectacular voice, her ease and never strained delivery of songs always appealed to me.

Joe Henry
"Civilians"

Arrived today, this is the first listen (currently song 2), this (and this artist) may deserve a thread of its own. Immediate reaction is more accessible than Tiny Voices, continuing with a similar overall sound/style, but more melodic and less "dissonant".

Joe Henry is better than just about anybody and this is real good Joe Henry so far.

Led Zeppelin 1 [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

You chaps in the UK are so lucky... To have Led Zeppelin playing in you own back yard so to speak. I know some say it's just not Led Zeppelin without John Bonham and I agree, but maybe we'll hear a little of him playing through his son. I am seriously considering trying to get tickets and jet over to London.

Cheers,

Larry
