What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Nic,

Same voices but much gentler and more refined music without the saxophone. I hardly go back to Officium.

Gian,

I am afraid you are going to need an Israeli citizenship for that...

Seriously, I am going to have to talk to someone there about that.

I hope you are all well.

Something to get me out of the box:

Another new purchase:

I'm only at third song, but feel the high energy that this great old man (may he play many, many moons, still !) has burned onto this CD. Fully compatible with my live experience(s).

cheers
Stefan

Thanks, another one on the list.

Dear Nic and Haim,

If you are going "back" then there is no more refined and sublimated music than that of Bach or Handel - in the original style!

It is impossible to overestimate the imapct of this music in all its variagated sfor sheer romantic impact of emotion if certainly not style! That is sublimated! But once you get used to the nuancing it is as free, and more expressive than any music since! Loud does not equate to truly meant, and slow does not equate to sublime or profound!

Moderate equates, however, to humane, and humanly understood!

Two days in a row I have listened to the Water Music and the Six Brandenburgs, and I do wonder if any greater public music exists! Handel defined public music with the Fireworks Music, and nothing finer in the line, as "propoganda" music has been conceived since, but Bach's public utterances are unequalled in the depth of private resonance!

Feeling serious, after some big and possitive thoughts. Much to do and now is the time for action!

A fantastic album - one of the best I've ever heard.

The newly issuedInto the Afterlife is worth a listen, it contains the material that the Zombies produced before turning into Argent and Colin going solo. Not as good as Odessey and Oracle, but excellent nonetheless.
