What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

The Power Of The True Love Knot by Shirley Collins - new vinyl pressing on Bo'Weavil. Absolutely superb.

They've put some mp3s on the web site too

Bonnie Boy
Black-Eyed Susan
Lady Margaret And Sweet William
Barbara Allen

The MP3s are nice, but the vinyl album is a superb pressing - it replaces my 40 year old original that I bought when I was at school and wore out. The new vinyl sounds much better than the CD, which in itself is not bad transcription.

I know False True Lovers has also been re-issued, but I haven't heard that yet - except for the MP3s so can't really tell if it is better than the CD transciption. Think I'll order a copy bedfore they all go.

This is my favorite Temptations CD over the last 15 years. New interpretations of old favorites and standards

Prelude and Fugue in B Minor. Bach played by Walcha at Cappel. Very nervous. Another Forum arrives shortly and I just wonder how critical will the response to my taste in music! Fredrik

George Duke's newest release.
Percussive and energetic and it's better than his last few albums. read: less new age shite.
Almost going back his earlier heritage with a powerfull horn section.

After a 12 hour drive from Noosa in Queensland to Sydney, it is great to be back in front of the Naim with this wondeful piano trio CD. My head is spinning and this is the best tonic.

Just also ordered the new Naim CD by Reuben Hoch that has Don Friedman on piano

Piano, here, too:

The Appassionata, played by Gulda. After Gulda playing the 1st LvB piano concert. Now, is this a good way to start of a Sunday ?

Bet ya...
