What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Some quite short ones though! Eek

Howard, it's supposed to be an E.P. £8.10 (inc. postage), so not badly priced.

Changing to CamJazz (and recording at Tonstudio Bauer) hasn't harmed Oregon. The loss of yet another member of the Oregon family has given the title to this CD, and it's in most parts an elegic work.

Another contender for at least the top-10 of 2007.

Sneakers (OST) - James Horner featuring Branford Marsalis ... fabulous!

And prior to that we've had John Barry's beautiful, melodic, romantic score to Until September, preceded by Ennio Morricone's Il Segreto (Le Secret).

Some days the music just seems to sell itself, I don't have to chose what to play - three great scores.

porcupine tree - nil recurring [EP]

Hi seagull,

Each of the 4 tracks are mainly in the FOABP mode.
The title track (NR) is an instrumental featuring Robert Fripp on lead guitar; it's ok & Gavin gets a good workout
Track 2: Normal; recorded in July, good time signatures and should work well 'live' with guitar and voice
Track 3: Cheating the Polygraph; IIRC was performed during the FOABP road test last year & then dropped from the album, ok
Track 4: What Happens Now?; Now this should be terrific 'live' & the 2nd track recorded in July. Ben Coleman features on electric violin with a storming finale. (If you have the no-man cd Flowermouth, Ben plays like in the finale of Things Change )

BTW - Just ordered the Blackfield DVD. The MySpace trailer is great. I love Stevens Pop alternatives to PT, how about you?

Thanks Denis, I shall look forward to that, I like a lot of what Fripp does too.

I've not really explored SWs other side projects must do that as he has a way with music which is very seductive.

I did buy an IEM album on vinyl recently but only spun it a couple of times as I've not had much time to listen to music recently.

Munch - PT are well worth investigating. In the absence of Nick Lees I'll recommend that you start with Coma Divine (a superb double CD/triple LP live album) for the older stuff then, given your last post try Sky Moves Sideways which is PT's most 'proggy' album.

Other than that I'd just recommend getting all of their albums as there isn't really a poor one amongst them - even the Steven Wilson's early efforts (just him in his room with some instruments and a cheap tape deck) have some stunning moments.

hi nymph,

no, and most unreasonably my paymasters deem "its content categorisation does not conform to [their] internet policy" so I will have to check it out tonight at home - although this forum obviously slips through their best efforts to spoil my fun! Two of my current favourites were both (sort of)discovered on myspace though they are both on the cusp of breaking through now:

...assuming you haven't already!
