What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Just bought this secondhand - jazz/classical fusion vibe - sounds very promising.

Lots since teatime!
Beethoven Missa Solemnis in Klemperer's magesterial, but remarkably fiery, and forward moving perfomance on EMI. I got ticked off for it afterwards, as I think I have found my miniature new set has more projection than I credited it with! Ooops!!
The Death And The Maiden Quartet followed in the wonderful reading [on HMV, transfered to EMI CD] by the Busch Quartet. Then the Water Music of Handel, with the Bath Festival Orchestra and Menuhin.
Then a change of tack to the New World Symphony with the Czech Phil under Vaclaw Talich which is wonderfully straight and classical, and has all the fire of say Mravinsky without the manic white-knuckle driven element! [Supraphon].
Then the Midnight News on Radio Four, the Late Book, and since a lovely Concert from Korea on Radio Three playing Mozart's G Major Piano Concerto, and lots of Sibelius!
Finally my two Accordianists in various lighter items as mentioned a few weeks back!
Lights out! G
