What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

I don't have any of his albums in any format - care to recommend one, I think I'm missing out again.

Whitest Boy Alive - Dreams
WBA is the side project of Erland Oye, one half of Kings of Convenience. It's a spikier, more pared down proposition than either KoC album. I admit to being disappointed at first, but it's rapidly growing on me. The overall sound is quite unique, but now that I like it more and more, I think the nearest reference point is the Young Marble Giants. Like that great band, WBA achieve a lot, musically, through limited instrumental means. Highly recommended to all admirers of KoC.

For the fatigued soul: Bach Book One of the Well Tempierte Clavier. So comes, after the gap, my favourite in E Flat Minor. Such brave music in the most compehemsively understood result of the human condition. Bach was Protestant, or else he should be Cannonised. Intersting to note the current efforts to raise money to Cannonise the late Pope Jan Pawla II at the moment.

Cornucopia of music! Just picked these up today. All different and good.
I couldn't wait to get off from work and buy these today, now, I can't go to sleep! I only wish my CD555 was here! (Coming next month)

Great minds think alike! I have Greg Brown's "Yellow Dog" and "Covenant" on the way from the US of A as we speak. Again another one of your recommended artists. This last few weeks has been very expensive, but very rewarding.

Hi Jim there is actually 2 versions of Covenant out there. Yours will be probably be the newer. After it was issued he decided he didn't like a couple of the tracks so he added instruments to I think 3 of them. I have the early version.
My favourite of his is Poet Game- fantastic disc. How he is not more widely known is beyond me. He set up the record label Red House after he left Greenwich Village in NY. He sold it a few years ago. But it is one the best independent label if you like accoustic music along with Signature Sounds and Andrew Calhouns label (name escapes me at the moment).
