What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Another fine album by Polly Jean.
This was my last purchase and I'm still trying to decide what I think. I always liked her tracks like "This is desire", "Catherine" and "The river" so I had high expections for this CD. This is sparse but also more raw.
At this point I only play it occasionally and its very mood dependent. That being said Polly is still one of my favourites. So many artists at this stage on their careers get dull and uninteresting. She has avoided that pitfall once again.

~<>~ JOSEPH HAYDN (1732-1809) ~<>~
Number 4 CD (from 6-CD set) The "Sturm und Drang" Symphonies
Symphony no.43 in E flat major, "Mercury"
Symphony no.51 in B flat major,
Symphony no.52 in C minor
~<>~ THE ENGLISH CONCERT ~<>~
on authentic instruments
~<>~ TREVOR PINNOCK ~<>~
[DDD] @1990 Deutsche Grammophon ARCHIV Produktion
It's not all storm and urgency, plenty of peaceful passages but it is very quick to change tempo and mood. The brilliant symph 51 in B flat expertly uses horns and clarinets in a similar way to Mozarts divertimenti for wind... i'm wondering who wrote that musik first <?>
Far from being too many discs for one Sturm und Drang i'm finding the more i play them the more enjoyable they become : )

Requested by seagull jr..."While Mum's out, can you put some music on? Something she hates. How about that weird one you played the other night, the one Mum said was crap"
I originally played this as it was mentioned in a thread in the Pink plaice.
I've got the original vinyl with Qu'ran on it, I'll leave you to read on to find out what that makes me...

Between Jeffrey Foucault,Greg Brown and Harry Manx I am sure you have been looking at my cd collection Jim.

Next up try the Clarence Bucaro disc Sense of Light. A wonderfully recorded disc. Drop me an email I may have a spare copy in the house which you can have as Clarence kindly sent me a copy of his new unreleased disc (and isn't going to be released) as well as some back catalogue discs to give away to friends. But can't promise anything as I would need to dig through a box of cd's on my get rid of pile to see if I still have copies.
Sense of Light can also be had cheap as it never sold well. Think Amazon US have copies going for about 49 cents. It is also a good test for your Hi Fi as it is a fantstic recording.
