What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

If I remember correctly, the last time you posted here something of a classical music was during Jimmy Carter's presidency... I hope you are not giving up on the good stuff.

Perhaps you should have gotten yourself a red violin instead of a guitar...

Haim

Saturday afternoon, beer in hand - great minds think alike.

I am really trying not to get too stressed or too drunk ahead of 8pm (being an Englishman) and SRV is really helping.

I don't have that album - do you rate it?

Cheers

Dear Haim!
Of course i did not give up the classical line that colour my late night flights here, in my attic in the sky!
But i must say that i still miss that million lps car's boot i had to sell an ice age ago (house owners don't listen to music and don't cry).
When i walk inside a records' shop something pull me to the blues corner.
I think is a matter of blood and imprinting and things are getting harder now with the red lady that slips under my fingers.
Btw something tells me that if i should come home with a violin i'd have to look for another place to live.
You change the house but the owners are the same.

Ciao Worm!
Please tell your friend i'm still enjoin' Gravenhurst album which stays on top of my listenings!

This live is very good and played with right mood tone.
It's a kind of celebration but the man stay humble and plays with the usual punch.
The only thing i don't like is that the music is a bit compressed and that's a shame as there's a very good orchestra on the stage.
Get it if you find one.

Goin' out for a take away pizza.
Of course, while waiting, i'll have my two pints.
The evening starts................now!

I will tell him - he was chuffed when I mentioned it before. He has just been given a load of time off as Gravenhurt are touring at the moment.

Very rock and roll.

Hi Ryan

It is a very different record for Polly Jean and rather short. The tracks have some sparse and highly atmospheric. The piano is PJ's main instrument. The album enables her to use her vocal talents to good effect. I'd ignore the critics - it's a fine album IMHO. When it arrives just listen to it as if it were an album by a new artist and don't think of it as the latest PJ Harvey record, as this sets certain expectations. It is not aggressive, it is controlled purposeful music. I think you'll enjoy it.

My only gripe is that the sound quality is a bit scratchy on a couple of tracks, though for the most part the recording quality is fine. Perhaps the vinyl is cleaner than the CD mix that I have.
