What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Working Man's Cafe - Raymond Douglas Davies - free with the Sunday Times: starts with excellent attack on the cheap labour culture and exploitation of people in Asia.

Sounds a bit Village Green in places from one of Britain's greatest ever song writers.

SJB,
I have this remastered Waterboys album and the sound quality isn't very good at all. My copy is on the Chrysalis EMI label from 2004. It sounds like the mix has been buggered about with when compared with some of the original songs.
George.

You bet... I hope (and am pretty sure) that I have all available Hille Perl recordings.
Glad you like this Marais, too...

Delia Derbyshire - everything she did was extraordinary - the pioneer of electronic music at the BB Radiophonic Workshop including, of course, the them from Doctor Who, and the album White Noise: An Electronic Storm. It all seemed that others got their names ahead of Delia on the credits, but she was the creative one - Ron Grainer tried to get her credited for the Dr Who theme, but somebody at the BBC prevented it.
There is a very good programme about the BBC Radiophonic Workshop on You Tube ( here) and lots of Delia's superb music can be heard here.
Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and those other Cosmic Jokers are all indebted to Delia.

Hi George,
funny you should say that as I was considering having a look for it to see if the extended version of Spirit was on it. It was the b side of the medicine bow 12inch if memory serves me correctly.
I was listening to the cd on the ensign label. Unlike many here if I have black and shiny versions I tend to go for the cd unless it's a notoriously bad remaster(like some Bowie I have). I actually was thinking how good it sounded so the 2000 remaster seems one to avoid, thnaks for that.
