What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Out of this world! What a difference it makes to run SBL's active and be able to hear the incredible nuances Anee-Sophie Mutter is able to express with her violin...

Last album of the Aussie night for me and a superb one to finish with.
What a superb line up - Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Charlie Haden and Jack Dejohnette with a couple of vocal tracks from James Taylor.

Haim - any other Hamelin recommendations, might as well buy several rather than just one?

Huw,
The Hamelins I like the best are Godowsky and Albeniz (Iberia), each of thm is a 2 CDs album. Kapustin's music is closer in form to jazz. I also have him playing piano sonatas of Ives and Barber. They are all on Hyperion, so you better contact your rustproofing service.
Regards,
Haim

Just sorted out an nice mini concert of live things to settle to in a minute! Cherubini Ov. Anacreon, and the Great C Major of Schubert. Both Boult live in the RFH in 1964 (?), and the RAH in 1969.
By the way why does no one perform Anacreon any more. It was a real favourite concert overture forty years ago, and a belting curtain raiser?
Fredrik
