What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Its a very good album IMO.
Not like anything i have ever heard before.
My daughter gave it to me when it first came out after i saw him on the tv in concert.

I stumbled across him/them by accident and I find it an utterly compelling performance. Barouque, soaring, sad, humble music. His music credentials are impeccable imho and his concerts are something you will never forget-talk about hear a pin drop in a huge symphony hall...

Stefan, did you get it or are you staying with his Haydn?

So far, the Haydn, only. After a short listen on JPC, I have ordered the Alkan, as well. Doesn't seem to be the right stuff for the Halloween night (which finally arrived in Germany, too. Sigh...)

Steve,

Theres an mfsl cd version, well two actually, they can be had on ebay for anything in between £35-100 sheets, they are rather good, my dad is a huge duane allman fan, his jaw hit the floor when he heard the mfsl version. You can hear quite alot more, just "better", best version out the IMO. - I think Ewemon agrees too. If you're a fan, buy it you wont regret it, do be patient though as some of them are on sale for silly money.

Yep the MFSL is the best version. I finally got another copy right wing.

Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound - Ekranoplan

Just bought this yesterday on vinyl. Its really really good. Very modern garage psyche......

Although I have to say the recording is dire..very compressed, but the music does shine through. Thoroughly recommended if you like this style of music.

Oxygene - Jean Michel Jarrem then
God's Great Banana Skin - Chris Rea.

Not sure what's going to be next - might try some Sex Pistols or Stranglers
