What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

am I the only one that isn't blown away by Jarrett / Peacock / DeJohnette trio's latest ("My Foolish Heart") ?

Which I'm re-listening to, rigth now.

Selections from Horace Silver boxset on Radio 3, seems worthy of further investigation.

Earlier, an average performance of Henry V at the RSC

Stefan, I listened to the Jarrett in-store and left with some other stuff. I'd get back to the Purcell if I was you Winker

After listening to JADD I thought it was as much of strain to listen to as it sounded she was having singing it.
There are several artists that don't click with me she is one of them.

Stefan,

Alkan is Huw's discovery.
Let me know, please, how you like the Rava/Bollani disc (I could not sample it on the JPC site).
I wonder how this music would compare to the wheeler/Taylor on CamJazz:

Munch,

Do you mean the Michelangeli disc? He is real special and if you like him you should listen to his debussy playing...

Talking of the wonderful 'Pronounced' by Lynyrd Skynyrd - here's a great pic of the man whose name was taken in vain to give the band their name: Leonard Skinner.

Apparently, he was a gym teacher at the boy's Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida.

Shoulds a bit like Teddy Thompson, Richard Thompson's son. First time I have heard him Jeff and sounds good to me. Purchase list for now.

"When all the world was very young
And mountain magic heavy hung
The supermen would walk in file
Guardians of a loveless isle
And gloomy browed with superfear their tragic endless
lives
Could heave nor sigh
In solemn, perverse serenity, wondrous beings chained to life"

One from last night's pile which I didn't get to.

'Sue' by Frazier Chorus

Sometimes you can just pick up a 20 year old record off the shelf and wonder why you don't play it more. (Probably 'cos there's about 5000 others...)

What a fantastic album.
