What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Thanks, folks. I have owned several versions of Blue (ie: vinyl,cd) over the years but gave it only occasional spins. Not sure I have heard Court & Spark so I will soon.
I like the new one, the last two tracks in particular stood out on my first listen. At the very least a couple additions to a compilation disc in the future.

Grey de Lisle -- Iron Flowers
Krista Detor -- Mudshow
Sophie Zelmani -- 1995-2005 A Decade of Dreams
I see from the posts here that a number like female folk artists. I would recommend people try Krista Detor. She plays the piano, has a lovely voice and sings her own compositions which are excellent -- great melodies. Her latest album, Cover Their Eyes, is also superb.
Another artist that is not mentioned is Grey De Lisle. She's not exactly folk. Her albums include alt-country, rock and Americana roots music. Worth a try too.

On Little Lights, which I have on loan from the local library, I was initiailly surprised to hear the Celtic influences, but checked a bit of Yorkshire history and it makes perfect sense.
Her voice is quite similar to Mindy Smith, to my ear, through my system.
thanks for making me aware of her, Jim

No argument from me on that score - thoroughly recommend the Live From Leeds DVD.
