What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I like this album more every time i play it.
If you like Kate Walsh or Eddi Reader.
I would give it ago.

Glad you like it - I think she's the Shirley Collins of the 00s. Perhaps a bit different as she's a song writer and Shirley didn't write songs preferring those written by Mr A Noni Mouse. Faultlines is a wonderful album.

I'm not familiar with Eddi Reader outside of her Fairground Attraction, but if she's up there with Karine Polwart, Rachel Unthank, Kate Rusby, Kate Walsh, Emily Smith and the stars of modern folk music then perhaps I should be.

Currently, I'm listening to

I like it too.

We re-watched the Folk Britannia series yesterday. I was surprised by June Tabors remarks about the "modern" folk stuff with "if it comes with drum and bass then not for me". Does she like FRNR? If she does what is the difference when Davey Graham is playing jazz on this record?

Back to back just now. Make no mistake, it will have to be something exceptional to better these.

Low - Drums and Guns.

Just got it and its on now. Not what I was expecting, but very very good all the same. Minimalist to the extreme, with some bleak soundscapes and haunting harmonies. Just the ticket for a cold wet winters day.

Not as great as Eldorado, but a fine album nonetheless and well worth £3.50 for re-mastered CD with some decent bonus tracks.
