What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Listening to the Allen/Haden/DeJohnette "The Life of a song" CD, inspired by an earlier post, here. Kind-of-good. There is better from Geri Allen, though (like that "Year of the dragon"). The recording appears almost clinical to me - Telarc, wouldn't you expect better ?

John Taylor - Rosslyn

An all too rare outing as a leader for this fine, English jazz pianist.

In a minute three comfortable old favourites!

Bach's Suites 2 in B minor, 3 in D, and 4 in D.

Adolf Busch Chamber Players on Pearl from EMI originals done in the thirties. As music making, it does not get much better than this, even if they are hardly H[istorically] I[informed] P[erformance] style readings by today's standards! They are supremely stylish, and have a humaine warmth I would willingly take in front of a little extra HIP where this leads to a coolness of utterance!

Good night all, George

Piano check, Guitar check, Drums Check & Bass check so that's 4 players and if my calculations are correct that make the title of this piece spot on. Razz
