What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi Steve I don't have any "live James Taylor" which one do you mean?

Jim,

This is a great double live album for anyone remotely interested in JT. Shame they gave it such a naff cover. Nice recording too.

Jim Steve means the James Taylor Live disc pictured above. Put it on your shopping list you won't regret it.

Sorry Ewemon, I didn't see your reply. There you go Jim, two recommendations. I think John (JN) is also enjoying it after a recent session where we played it.

I agree with you on Tom Petty. Damn the Torpedos and Hard Promises would be my pick of his - the live one is OK too.

Regards,

Steve

It is a Japanese 24bit XRCD mastered for Stockfish who state the following on their web site :
"Stockfisch offers another audiophile experiment: We transferred our highresolution stereomix soundfiles of the SACD "hell or high water" to the JVC Studios in Yokohama. Renowned sound engineer Kotetsu mastered a XRCD24 based on this material. Available now from Stockfisch Records: A very interesting and exciting comparison between SACD and XRCD."

I have to say it has outstanding sound quality.

Geoff

Hi Geoff

The cd I have is on the "Chesky" Label which has Digital DDD Recording. Still excellent sound quality and very goo it is too. It's probably the later discs of hers that have had the higher resolution in Japan. I bet that sounds amazing!

How do you rate the "Hell or High Water" disc? I have heard the sound clips on Stockfish and it sounds very good, probably alot better than "Play On Words".

Jeff

Try this one. Recorded in the kitchen with the kids playing in the background. The songs are fantastic and the sound quality is stunning. Me thinks will love it.

The wild theme tune is very easy on guitar and with the right amount of reverb and drive it's something you can do for hours!

Jim....It is as expected an excellent recording. The acoustic instruments come across as 'real' and Chris Jones is a mean backing guitarist . A mixture including a few non Sara K songs.

I also have this VINYL one:

If you like Sara K's slightly convoluted lyrics and her mid range voice both are worth having.

Vinyl copy arrived today. Very peaceful melodic stuff and good pressing. Has CD included too like the recent Wilco and Rilo Kiley albums. Excellent idea.
