What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Jim....It is as expected an excellent recording. The acoustic instruments come across as 'real' and Chris Jones is a mean backing guitarist . A mixture including a few non Sara K songs.

I also have this VINYL one:

If you like Sara K's slightly convoluted lyrics and her mid range voice both are worth having.

regards
Geoff

Thanks for the info Geoff. Interesting to know that Chris Jones is involved he really was a fantastic musician. It really is sad he is no longer with us.
I know what you mean about Sara's lyrics, very strange. It reminds me of Jon Anderson (Yes) with his lyrics, did not understand them at all but a fantasic singer and musician.

Try this!

Hi Jamie

Nice to know there are other Kiki Dee fans out there just as you mentioned. The tamla motown years looks interesting. I grew up in that era and love tamla, will check it out now.

Off topic I know. How do you rate the 555ps against the XPS2? I noticed in your profile you have this with the CDS3. Is it worth the extra and where does it excel?

jim...yes very sad. He made this superbly recorded CD of his own called 'Moonstruck', not long before he died, for stockfish which comes with a much older CD of his 'No looking back' thrown in free.

Jim,

jim.........

I never had the XPS2, so difficult to do the comparison. There are a couple of threads on this on the Hi Fi Corner and it seems that most people think that the 555PS is better.

Whether it is worth the extra or not, once you already have the XPS2, I am not sure, but when I put it onto my CDX2 at the time it did bring considerable improvements over the bare version.

Jim,

I love J J Cale as well.

However, I don't think that the album with Clapton is that great. I am not sure what you already have, but it is not in the same league as Troubadour or To Tulsa and Back IMO. It is not bad, but not great either.
