What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I would be embaressed to say how many times I have played this in the last ten days. Does the term "looping" give you an idea .... I just think it sounds so fresh. Shining again indeed.

Varese Sarabande - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack @ 1986 & This CD edition 2001

It's okay... but strange without the visual image stimulus that one becomes accustomed to with these sounds. I think the composition works much better on the film and much of this music score could (or should) be reworked to make this an interesting album in its own right. The military drum rolling 'combat drop' is disapointing considering this scene in the film is so superb but overall its a good performing soundtrack.
Recommendation of this cd is only for ALIEN(S) cult followers; normal people should watch the Alien DVD and the Aliens DVD ...just the first two films ...don't bother watch the others.

Rod Stewart when he was good.

Younger viewers may not realise that Rod Stewart was once a great vocalist, with a great band. Instead of .......

Hi Jim,

No. I sold my LP12 some time ago, these are the re-mastered CDs. Thankfully, the re-masters are good.

I couldn't be bothered with running two formats and as soon as I found a CD player that gave me as much pleasure, that was it.

It will take a long time to replace all the vinyl I had, but I'm getting there and I did buy a lot of rubbish on vinyl in the 70s, that I won't replace. Youthful folly.

Munch,

We have much in common on the music front, look forward to the 23rd.

Regards,

Steve

Call yourself a rocker ( or a mod) and you don't have this album - shame on you. The Who's finest hour IMO - although 'Live in Leeds' is close second. I've said it before but Keith Moon's work on the drums on the album is real artistry.

Buy it now 'before you get old' Smile
