What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Everything but the girl - The landuage of life
'Each and every one' from their first album 'Eden' is still one of my favourite tracks.
I was lucky enough to see them at Uni in the mid 80s just as they were first hitting the charts.

Have to confess not my favourite band, but they are my wife's. The song "Each and Every One" will always remind me of her. I saw them once at the Bloomsbury theatre in London and it was acoustic and superb especially when they did Bruce's "Tougher than the rest".

I prefer their earlier stuff - laid back jazz stylee. Not so keen on their middle 'lift music' phase, but got better more recently as they got more into drum and bass.

That's a great track too.
I have 6 of their albums (excluding a Greatest Hits). I think I'm missing some...
I agree, they are a great band.

One for the hay! Brandenberg Number Six in B flat. For the amazing combination of Two Violas (da Braccio or in the violin style), Two Violas da Gamba (like half-sized double basses), and continuo of 'cello, harpsichord and double bass. Not a violin in sight, and such a lovely warm, and consoling piece. Recording: Archiv 1950, August Wenzinger and the Scola Cantorum Basiliensis. The original HIP recording.

I still can't make up my mind about Frank Zappa; was he great or was he dreadful?
Posted on: 10 February 2006 by Nime
Dunno yet. I only had time for the first couple of numbers. Never had any previous interest in his material but saw this DVD on the library shelf.

I still have a soft spot for the Elgar, and this in an Elgar and a half! The Walton's pretty stunning too, but the sound isn't great.
