What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I'm not sure the Gyro will stay because I. too, wish to investigate that Orbe. The person I borrowed the Gyro from has an Orbe, but a system that it so different from mine that listening to his Orbe didn't really tell me much.

Please post back how you get on with the Orbe - thanks.

That is an excellent record - I've got quite a lot of T-Dream stuff - all on vinyl. You need a deck that minimises background noise to enjoy these records at their best. Your LP12 should do that very nicely.

Jim - I've got a Gyro on loan. It sounds really precise on female vocals with lots of detail - I tried my early Mary Black album and it was crystal clear - well it was when I changed the Ortofon cartridge to my trusty DV - possibly something to do with the matching my DV phono stage. All my Kate Rusby is on CD or DVD (Live at Leeds), as is most of my other female vocal music - female vocals I have on vinyl are Shirley Collins, Sandy Denny, Grace Slick and Mary Black.

I haven't really had chance to try the Orbe (that wasn't an option). The person who I visited to loan the Gyro had a valve amp and speakers with glass enclosures - he loved it, but I'm happier in the land of Naim. I've heard the Orbe sound great at demonstrations.

Sorry, can't be of more help.

ROTF...Under the same circmstances you should find the Orbe is a 'grown up' Gyro. Deeper quality bass, excellent attack, groove and a dead quiet background.

Warning .....you will find yourself wondering if you should upgrade the DV phono stage

regards

ROTF,

I have a similar problem that the ORBE is in a Musical Fidelity System going through ProAc Studio 140's, though I do know the MF sound quite well so I'll get good idea of what the ORBE is doing when I play some familiar tunes, At least it is solid state unlike your mates kit.

I got the Force Majeure on CD & LP and played it today on CD because I'm trying an Sugden A21SE amp and cannot connect it to my Stageline. I must get more of their stuff but that's the case with about a billion artists at the mo.
