What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Yes I was there 27 September 1971 at the Royal Albert Hall (London). They had Tony Joe White (Pork Salad Annie) as support. Great concert.
According to the web site, during the period of your album, they played
Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Holland 8 and 10
Kongresshalle, Frankfurt, Germany, 13 and 14
Deutschlandhalle, Berlin, 15
Ernst Merck Halle, Hamburg 17
KB-Hallen, Copenhagen 19
Tennishallen, Stockholm 21
Sportpaleis, Antwerp 24
Royal Albert Hall, London 27 and 28
I saw them on the 15 April 1970 at the same venue when they were still a 4 piece. The set was Born on the Bayou, Green River, Tombstone Shadow, Travelin Band, Fortunate Son, Commotion, Midnight Special, Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Night Time is the Right Time, Good Golly Miss Molly and Keep on Chooglin' (I didn't remember the play list I looked it up) - the support group was Quintessence (who the announcer said Creedence had specifically asked to support them, but they were rather boring IIRC). Creedence were superb as always.
John Fogerty is just as good now - I saw his Glastonbury set on TV and the man is unbelievably good (does he ever play a wrong note). I bought the Long Road Home DVD/CD set and it is just great.
The only problem with John is you know what you're going to get - especially his new album Revival which is just like a Creedence album. He did once try a different style on Eye of the Zombie, but it was dreadful. He recognised it as such and promised never again and he's been back on form ever since.
Once again, Howard, thank you - I have just ordered the CD of the Live in Europe album.

Your new white violin is most impressive, though a harp could even be better. More strings to it...
Anyway, here is something very good and very far from classical music. You will like it:

James cotton, Deep in the Blues.

Am i converting you Haim?

I do remember "Pure cotton" as one of the best in a old friend collection.
Btw the more i read this forum the more records i feel the need to get.
Those who see my dowdiness can't imagine.......................
The new violin is really great and a pleasure for the soul even though i'm planning "a little intervention" on pick ups.
I'm taking back all those old tunes and i see my fingers coming back to life after years of sleep.
Touching.
I've placed an order on Amazon

Conclusion - Kraftwerk sounds very good on a Gyro.
Wow Rotf, your Kraftwerk vinyl looks like a few bobs worth! : )
i used to have computor world on vinyl and paid the price of shame for it at the time because nobody else i knew liked it at all!
I still have a Tour-De-France single somewhere (up in the loft covered in dust). But most Kraftwerk is now available on cd, i have Radio-Activity and Trans-Europe-Express, both hold up very well on digital format : )
Conclusion - Probably not as good as a Gyro but Kraftwerk still sounds very good on a cdi!
Which is your favourite ablum, Rotf ?

DJ Format- Fabriclive
A bit schizophrenic in that it goes from the usual but well executed big beat and breaks to some old school sould and jazz. Brilliant.

Hi nymph
I don't believe in the vinyl is better than CD saga; I'm sure your Kraftwerk CDs sound great on your CDi. I have lots of vinyl records and lots of CDs and enjoy both media as long as the music is right for me.
My favourite Kraftwerk album is probably Trans Europe Express, but they all have something special about them. I used to play The Model from Man Machine a lot when I first had it and then suddenly it became a big hit, which surprised me. So many electronic groups in the 80s seemed to copy bits of the Kraftwerk sound without every equalling the magic that Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter achieved.
Another forum member very kindly let me have the first two Kraftwerk albums (the ones with the traffic cones) and they are quite different from the later records, but very enjoyable exploratory music, played on a variety of traditional instruments including guitar, bass, electric organ, flute and violin. Klaus Dinger was the drummer on the first Kraftwerk album and he and Michael Rother broke away to form Neu! I have and thoroughly recommend the first two Neu! albums as well.
Other electronic groups I really like are Tangerine Dream and TONTO's Expanding Head Band and I love the electronic music of Delia Derbyshire (she wrote the Dr Who theme, but was never credited with it, as the BBC felt Ron Grainer's name had more kudos; Grainer was very upset that Delia never got the credit she deserved) - however, all of these bands sound strikingly different. Early Human League is really good too.

I've always loved what i've heard of S & G but strangely have never owned one of their records. I've had a few of Paul Simon's but not S & G. Well now I have righted that wrong..................
Followed by the album everyone seems to have on the Forum.................... My first play.

This has to be one of his best. Not sure why I haven't played it for so long.

Another good album, but I've got an early start tomorrow and so it will have to wait until later in the week.
