What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Geoff,
Do you rate this one? I am a big fan of EC's earlier stuff - up to King of America, but I have never been able to get into the more recent releases.
I have got this one, but I haven't played it much and am wondering if it is worth a few more plays.
Regards
Richard

Thanks, Geoff.
Appalachian Spring is one of my wife's favorite compositions. I am not familiar with Three places in New England and I will try to listen to it soon. The only work that I have of Ives is his piano sonata played by Marc Andre Hamelin.
Do you have any work of Morton Feldman? His String Quartet No. 2 (1983) was just recorded by the FLUX quartet. This composition of one unbroken movement lasts 6 hours 7 minutes and 7 seconds. I think that the Koronos quartet managed to perform it uninerrupted a couple of years ago. It is available in a 5-CD set or one DVD audio.

Haim

Mark what gives? All the family and neighbors away? - or are you using the Tocata & Fugue to dust the ornaments?

Richard...I am strugling to like it all myself. Some tracks are quite good but then it gets too atonal for me. I am doing the same as you, persevering but not sure yet.quote:Geoff,

Haim...WOW 6 hours..that is some challenge. I have never heard anything by Feldman. Can you suggest something less daunting to try?quote:Do you have any work of Morton Feldman? Thanks Geoff, that hs saved me a bit of time as I won't bother with this one now.
I would think that you are already familiar with his earlier stuff, but, if not, there are several absolute classics that are much better than this one.

Geoff,
Feldman's music, though facinating, moves very slowly. You might try this one:
