What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764), Le Tombeau
Speaking of 'Tombeau' (grave) and reading the liner notes I just discovered that one morning, at the age of 67, Leclair was stabbed to death in his house. The crime was never solved.
I cannot think of any other classical composer whose life ended in violence. Am I right?

I can't wait for the other 3 (by same artists) to come from Caiman. Fed up with europe disc prices....
Thanks to Huw from his original post!
Adagio of No.1 is great music.
Cheers

Mark,
Which other 3 discs did you order and from what site in Caiman?

magical, and the whole purpose of hifi imho is to offer up true gems like this... buy it, borrow it, steal it, just listen to it.

Gordon,
Agreed. Had a listen to "True Love Ways" with Munch and JN on Friday. Makes you wonder how far we've come in 50 years when you hear a recording as good as that.
A little later, this sounded pretty good too and is now on it's way from Amazon. Neil Young - Massey Hall '71.

Hi Munch,
It was Wishbone Ash's "Live Dates 2".
A vinyl 2LP that dates from the M. Turner/S. Upton/A. Powell/L. Wisefield line-up.
It has yet to appear on CD for some bizarre reason. You might be lucky with a vinyl copy on e-bay or similar.
Enjoyed Friday, thanks. More damage to the old cc on Amazon.

Agreed. Being picky I could lose the rather twee "Roses" track, but otherwise it's very good.
