What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Do you have this one?

Picked it up at a local record shop.
You might like it. A lot of synth. but it's cool.

I agree. KD maybe a bit 'unusual' but she can sure sing.

Haim,

Sounds like a very interesting line up, how is the music and is it worth getting?

Regards

Nic

I got mine for free, courtesy of Naim, when the CDI was released. It's an excellent album.

I actually use it as a 'test record. Track 1 & 2 is a great dynamic test and track 3 has background voices whoose audibility tests resolution well.

You got an album for free by the great man - you were lucky indeed. If you like Christy and get a chance listen to Ride On, which is quite phenomenal album, then give it a spin. Mind you most his records are worth a spin IMHO.

Thanks ROTF. I have scoured my CD rack and located:

Ride On
Ordinary Man
Voyage (my favourite)
Smoke & Strong Whiskey
Live at the Point
King Puck
Grafitti Tongue
Traveller
This is the Dy
Burning Times
Live 2006.

Are there any others I should have? As you might have guessed, I like Christy Moore.

Coming to the conclusion that this is very overrated

Bound to be, given the hype. I think a lot of people have warmed to the fact that the duet works at all. I have only heard a couple of tracks, neither of which had me ordering it I must say. I thought it sounded "nice" in an easy listening kind of way, but that was it.

It is a good idea, but the songs are generally fairly weak. I doubt if it will be on many lists of great albums in years to come.

just got my LP12 back serviced, meticulously set up (thanks Peter!), new Hercules Power Supply and Prefix....

so now listening to Can "Cannibalism" on vinyl - specifically the track "Yoo Doo Right" - a mere 20 minutes long and it's sounding pretty great
