What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi Gordon, Dicuss, munch

Thanks

Thought you may be interested to know Karine Polwart has recorded two albums worth of material. The first is a collection of traditional songs, titled The Fairest Floo'er on her own Hegri Music label scheduled for release on 10th December. The second album is of her new songs, titled This Earthly Spell scheduled for release in March 2008.

Appatently, The Fairest Floo'er is a dark and intimate affair, which marks a return to traditional Scottish song, where Karine's musical career began almost a decade ago, as a member of folk groups Malinky and the Battlefield Band. The pared down arrangements of ballads and love songs on The Fairest Floo'er feature little else other than sparse piano or guitar accompaniment, with the odd daub of atmospheric colour. The performances showcase her warm and earthy vocals and assured storytelling.

- That's from her web site.

I've been listening to the following for the first time and have been enjoying them:
Eric Bibb - Diamond Days
Devon Sproule - Keep your Silver Shined
Dashboard Confessional - Dusk & Summer
Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
Lindsey Buckingham - Under the Skin

A couple of albums I have refound and love are:
Lloyd Cole - Rattlesnakes

Not sure how you get the cover art on the forum I'm afraid.

Thanks ROTF,

Yeah I get her email bulletins every so often and they are much better quality than the usual - "Hey Bob Dylan has released a special issue T shirt to commemorate it being Thursday" or some such thing.

Trinity Revisited - Cowboy Junkies Trinity Sessions revisited with some special guests on the album's 20th anniversary. A good job well done. Purchased over the band's website but probably cheaper through other retailers.
