What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Jeff, I am not familiar with Morphine, could you give some more info on what type of music it is?

I still can't get on with that one.
Guess I am stuck in '80s.
p.s. I got the Essential on the vinyl along with a lot of 12" singles.

It's not that sound effect that is lacking.
Somehow, I don't get on with the contents than their older titles.
You gotta remember I even enjoy the tunes in my office system which cuts off at around 50 hz.

Don't know if it is still available but the MP3 site EMUSIC used to have a Kris Delmhorst Live at Schuba's disc that you couldn't get anywhere else.

Gordon, the only thing I know about Morphine is this disc. Three-piece,unusual instrumentation - drums, bass and vocals, and baritone sax. I don't play it often but like it every time - the disc rocks in its own unique way - apparently they were amazing live according to the friend who gifted us with this disc.
Noticed on the loaner Kris Delmhorst disc that Morphines' drummer was the producer. Gian has been playing the KD and piqued my interest. It rocks in a quieter way, excellent but slightly unique vocal sound, I will be buying my own copy of this at some point and will be trying to dig deeper into her catalogue.
Quality begets quality - those subtle connections can lead to some great music discoveries. I love exploring the works of artist/producer/band member connections.

Exactly Jeff, thats kind of why I'm always interested in what other forum members are listening to.

I have loved this album since it first came out but today I think I have heard it for the first time...on my Sondek.

I've been spending much of today with Elgar. I hadn't planned to but then, whilst doing some Christmas shopping, I happened across a 5 disc box of the orchestra works in HMV for just £12 and decided I needed a present to myself, especially given Barbirolli is the conductor. So far I've enjoyed the wonderful cello concerto with du Pre and am no listening to the first symphony.
Well worth picking up if you happen across it.
regards, Tam

Ewen,
if you listened to those discs in that order, Tiny Voices must have been a bit of a jolt between Wilson and Otis, though there is no doubt JH is soulful in his own way.
hope you are feeling better !
