What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Keith Urban "Greatest Hits"
KU is often written off, similar to John Mayer, as being some media creation, no-talent pretty boy. Nothing profound here, but very tasteful country tinged pop with some very fine guitar playing by KU. One of my favorites, after seeing his "Country Road" tribute version to JT on the Musicares dvd - he ripped it up that night.

Ewen,
if you listened to those discs in that order, Tiny Voices must have been a bit of a jolt between Wilson and Otis, though there is no doubt JH is soulful in his own way.
hope you are feeling better !

Thanks for the kind words. No I didn't listen to them in that order but have to thank you for stimulating my interest in Joe Henry again. Had everything up to Fuse then got rid of that album but now have ended up buying everything up to Civvilians which I will get shortly. Have you heard that new Mark Olson disc, seems vg?

Not yet. I am in a bit of a purchase connundrum as I hate buying with credit card (online) but hate worse being in traffic/crowds regarding shops (cash). So, the list grows, and recent purchases have been mainstream (Starbucks) or where I shop on the way home from work (one stop for everything I need but very limited music selection). And library loans till I purchase. And too much music too little time.
Life is hard

ps JH from Fuse forward is so unique - I love that he does his own thing and challenges our comfort zones.

Hi kuma
A classic album of early seventies pop/rock. Originally, Messina (Buffalo Springfield, Poco) was only producer but he and KL meshed so well it was titled as above. Their real forte was live - try "On Stage" (from 72-73) or "Sittin In Again" (from 2005 on cd or dvd). They got jammin' at times live with hints of jazz, one of my first exposures to a genre I came to love. Another terrific studio album is Mother Lode. Enjoy.
