What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

For all those Gillian Welch fans- one of the best albums I have heard this year. A friend brought a promo copy over last night for a listen as he thought I might like. How right he was. Have just nipped onto her website an bought and autographed copy for under 10 squid.
If you want to listen to 2 minute samples pop over to www.cdbaby.com.

So..... she is playing an outdoor fruit/vegetable farmer's market (coins in a hat/guitar case gig) in downtown Portland on Sat Dec 8 at 11am - guess I'll have to be there and pick up the cd directly from Ms Harrington - living in Pdx can be so hard at times Smile Thanks for the tip.

Was at this show, my wife's birthday gift to me that year was tickets to this intimate show - sold out - mesmerizingly good. She was touring in support of "1000 Kisses". Posted a query at her forum site about a recording and was sent this by Bob Fortune, someone I have never met (he just asked for my address and sent it). Excellent audience recording, but there were two second gaps between all tracks - so I "edited" with fade ins and outs and deleted most of the bantering - makes a wonderful 68 minutes of PG live. If you would like a copy, send me your address at uagain51 at hotmail dot com. Happy holidays.

Started off with Bruno Walter conducting Mozart's last sixth symphonies with the VPO. Then, Karajan's reading of Dvorak New World Symphony with BPO on EMI. Cannonball Adderley's Somethin' Else, Monk's Brilliant Corners and Monk's Music. All on vinyl.

Then to CD: OST for Amélie, Terry Evans' Blues for thought and now Bajofondo Tango Club with Mar Dulce.

"E.C." The new Eric Clapton best-of, released to coincide with the publication of his autobiography. By no a means true best-of, with far too many omissions and too much of his 80s Phil Collins-produced stuff (sorry ROTF!), but still a good sample of a very large body of work.

Home alone, so having a Cure fest...

Hhhmmmm not sure what happened to the piccie - Looks like they squashed it to be the same shape as a normal CD - makes Bob look, erm, larger than life.

Minimal Smile

I use a Mac and can never get the BBC radioplayer to work (just tried again, no luck) - I will check the podcast listings and see if it will be repeated and podcast. Thanks for the info.

If you find out let me know!! I have a mac too and run into the same obstacle when I tried previously.

It was a wonderful interview - I reckon JW is the greatest rock interviewer I've ever heard - provided he likes the music of the interviewee(s)!!

ps. also, if you like the RP/AK disc and style of music and listen to podcasts or internet transmissions, I must again recommend www.mountainstage.com center/top "the Gazz" is where the show archives are.

great artists, music and the host is terrific and a talent in his own right.

Well, Peter, it took 45 minutes, but I think I did it (I have tried this numerous times before and it failed, don't know what I did different today.)

I googled "real player for mac" and then just kept going where it seemed logical - there is a download for mac. Somehow, I got it into my applications folder, if I open the player now and then go to the BBC and click "listen", it seems to work. (As I say, I have tried all this before, not sure why I accomplished it today)

There is a link for me to listen to JW show from today, thanks for the info.
