What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

It's a really good album; I was listening to it yesterday afternoon.
'Joyous Encounter' is another Joe Lovano album I'd recommend.

Thanks, Nigel.
I am not familiar with 'Joyous Encounter'. I will try to listen to it. I am planning to get more music of Hank Jones. His only other (excellent) disk that I have is with Charlie Haden 'Steal Away'.
Regards,
Haim

Hi von zipper - saw that CD second hand a while ago and was tempted. What's the music like, and is it any good?

Hi Droodzilla,
I really like this album. Firstly, it's got excellent production -big sweeping spacious sound, and also I like the music - it's a combination of jazz improvisation and chilled dance beats - not usually my thing but this just works! I'm not sure if it's a dance album or a jazz album but its certainly a good album IMHO!
You can pick it up for around £7 on Amazon and it's certainly worth the risk!

The deluxe version has the original studio album re-mastered plus a recording of the only time the suite was performed live in its entirety, at the sixth Antibes Jazz Festival in 1965. My knowledge of jazz is very limited, but this sounds great to me.
