What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Have you got LD 2?
Steve
Nope. Do you think it is as good as the first Live Dates?

Yes indeed.
Highlights are "Doctor Doctor", "Living Proof", "FUBB" and superb cuts of "Lorelei", "Persephone" and "You Rescue Me".
The problem is that it was a very limited 2LP release, followed by a single LP version with some of the best stuff missing. There has been no CD release, which is irritating. There can't be many albums that have not seen a CD release.

What do you think Voltaire, I reckon its a great album if you can get over the lou Reed comparisons.
Particularly festive cover.

How strange, I was just thinking that Howe holds the end phrase like Lou Reed!
I love the album..another example of how (sometimes) mashing two sounds together can produce an equal greater than the sum of its parts. I bought this album because someone on here posted that intriguing picture and it was worth every penny.
Recommended.

Gary,
Played this earlier myself, one of my best buys from 2006. You can trace back roots to Badfinger and in between Jellyfish. I can't stop playing these at the moment, Power Poptatstic...

'68 release.
Recorded at Chicago's Universal Studio.
I recall visiting the studio in the early 80's. Got to play their 9 foot Bosendorfer Grand which was pretty cool.

Earlier on CD:-
Both myself and Sally(Mrs) enjoyed this on a first listen.I liked the musicianship mainly a light touch with some good variations , but it still seemed like a RP album with Alison guesting. 8.5/10

A Oscar night tonight following the news of his sad death. Amongst many of his discs tonight, inevitably the simple and uncomplicated but beautifully executed masterpiece that is Night Train.

I was just talking with a friend about Mr. Peterson and how I missed him in my journey through Jazz. I just purchased this CD last week and have been completely amazed. He was a treasure and I look forward to learning more.
