What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

What's the Mediaeval Trio CD like?

I narrowly almost saw them live in Sheffield a couple of months ago, and wonder what I missed.

droodzila,

I never heard them live, so I cannot say what you missed by not going to see them, though I can guess that they sound as great live (as long as the performing hall and amplifications are on a small scale).

I have two other of their excellent discs; 'Words of the Angel' & 'Soir, dit-elle'. If you have none of their music I suggest that you start with Words of the Angel:

Have a good holiday,

Fabulous album Soir, Dit Elle, Haim. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Relaxing peaceful, spritual, soothes the soul. Kept meaning to buy their other discs but never got around to it.

This live recording still trumps any other recorded performance of it, which I have come across!

The BBC somehow managed a completely clear balance between the soloist and strings without getting too close to the keyboard. Lessons could be well learned by people trying to record this music from this broadcast, but most of all the performance is simply glorious!

After that the same forces performed the C Major Suite, with real swing.

Good night, peeps, ATB from George

Last music berfore Ch4istamas and first after!

The room is like an ice-block, and the set glorious from ten seconds in.

I am gradually realising that there is no such thing as warm up at all. It is all about what your state of listening receptivity actually is!

After three days I am highly receptive. I heard my first Winehouse yeaterday. Well I knew the song - "Valerie" - but honestly thought is was one of those horrible androgenous pop-boys till I heard it directly from my nephews who had it as a present. Apparently he thinks it is good music. Possibly enjoyable [for some people], but whether it is actually music is far more open at least to debate.

I am so glad to be back. Never will I celebrate Christamas in company again!

Yes, Ewemon, I have just played it tonight for the first time in ages and that is not an overstatement.
