What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

It's not his best from my initial listening. But I didn't realise that this is his first disc when he was in a band called Stavin Chains. They have just pulled a fast one and changed the Artist on the cover.

Only ever liked her second album and used to like her husband Paul Curerri but have gone off him a bit. Don't know if you have but pop over onto her site where she used to be able to download duets of her and Paul.

was able to grab some CD's from a local chain that had 19 percent off, on everything, today...

Natalie Dessay - Bellini's Somnambula (currently on)
Trio Mediaeval - Folk Songs (the others being ordered with Caiman) - next in line
The Leaders - Spirits Alike (always meant to buy this)

cheers
Stefan

Thanks, Stefan.

I survived the ordeal though the ride there was tough. The drive of 500 KMs in steady falling snow and icy roads took me over nine hours and it felt like nine years.

What do you think of Folk Songs? I personally liked much better their first two albums.

Regards,
Haim

Hi Haim - I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this - it looks very interesting (piano & viola, yes?).

Thanks

Droo,

I am glad that you like my countrywoman Anat Fort.

As for Asturiana, it is a lush, vivid, and sometimes even flamboyant music for piano & viola composed by South American and Spanish composers.
Kashkashian & Levin play passionately and with great synergy. I highly recommend this disc as well as their Brahms Sonatas (another ECM).

Haim

First disc played in 2008. Had to be piano music.

From the Musikverein, The New Year's Day Concert with the VPO led by Georges Pretre!

Frantastic first half with, quite naturally, a French twist! Interval now, but the second half looks set fair to be a great one and I have been listening to the concert each year since the mid seventies! The glory days of Willi Boskowsky leading from the First Violin!

Happy New to you all! George

Van Morrison "still on top: the Greatest Hits". Does pretty much what it says on the tin.

A seasonal favourite for me as 'A House Is Not A Motel' always reminds me of 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'!

And of course a very Happy New Year to all!

Thanks Haim, I've added the Asturiana to my wish list.

He is a troubadour and Helen has a crackin voice. I was tempted to take the kids to see him up at Gairloch but then realised it was an 8 hour drive - I think he must live there.

Might check him a bit nearer to home Smile
