What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi to newcomer Lontano - the album you're named after is excellent indeed - one of Stanko's very best (and that's saying something). I'd be interested to hear a little more about the pictured album - looks intriguing.

I have been playing this CD quite a lot recently. Brederode is the pianist from Suzanne Abbuehl's band.

This is typically ECM. Quite melodic but challenging and it is very atmospheric. The first track on the CD is just one of those gorgeous track that I can play non stop - beautiful repeating piano with sax, light cymbals and bass. Great late night music - more on the slower side as a disc and my wife even likes it.

Thanks Lontano, I'll add it to my wish list.

Conventional medication does not seem to be working, so buckling my swash to fight the evil bugs that hold me in their sway. I hate the 'flu.
Full score recording with full orchestra, excellent stuff.

Mark,

I am not familiar with the two discs you mentioned.
The above is very highly recommended if you like solo piano. Most of the works there (arrangements after Italian composers) are little known and are not the typical Bach you would expect.

Haim

They are from the big Brilliant classics boxset which I bought to discover music from Mozart that I don't know. I have yet to get though alot of this (especially the Operas) as is the case with the Bach set (Cantatas).

The Horn Quintet is a lovely piece of music and am tempted to order the 2 complete Quintet double CDs from Phillips. Also the string Quartets from Quartetto Italiano, but this looks to be part of a large complete Mozart works by Phillips.

Mark
