What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Great choice VZ. Is that LP, orig CD or Island CD Remaster?
Steve

Sorry Steve, wasn't ignoring you, just got back in front of the PC - it was on the Island CD re-master, although I do possess an original vinyl copy which doesn't get played so much as its prone to a bit of irritating snap crackle pop on some of the best moments Frown.
It is a great album tho....

It's rather good, not sure what I was expecting as I failed to ask anyone what genre it was each time I've seen someone playing it.
I'm none the wiser as to what genre it is though.

Apart from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and the late 1960's "British Pop Explosion", this record was so much a part of my childhood , truly seminal in my life and will always have a special place in my heart.

Frankly, whatever your tastes, anyone who cannot see the beauty in this does not have a soul!!....

(...in my humble opinion Smile)

Ah right. I think the Island remaster is very good, but I know of one member who likes the original CDs. So it might be a system or room thing (unless there were other releases).

When I play this:

Which is not a remaster, the same tracks don't sound so good. No live version of "Heartbreaker" as there was on the vinyl either. Frown

Only a record company muppet could possibly take off the only track that isn't available elsewhere.

They are all great albums.

When I asked to listen to some Ani Difranco at Rough Trade East recently, the guy behind the counter said, "We don't get much call for that sort of thing" !! ....draw your own conclusions!

Great Live album Steve. I love their Rock On disc as well. Had the pleasure of seeing them in the old Glasgow Greens Playhouse in the early '70's. They just blew the house roof off. Brilliant gig.

Nice one. I would have been a smidge young for the gig, my first gig was '74. But was into the album big time, superb versions of "Four Day Creep" and "Stone Cold Fever".

I had a lot of time for Steve Marriot, a tragic loss imo, and one of the true drivers of British music.

Me too. My Dad had this as well as 'West Side Story'.

He didn't have many records in the early days, but what he did have is an immutable part of my childhood too.

Ah, memories.

Yes, Mark, my Dad had few records which is probably why it got played a lot. It is a wonderful record though - "Some Enchanted Evening" can have me in tears if I'm in the right mood although at the age of 5 I can remember being slightly scared of the leading male singer - don't know his name - in the Finale and hiding behind the sofa!

P.S. Crap film though!

I must admit though, Steeve, that the cover held some interest for me too as I got older!

Smile Think our copy had bitten the dust by the time I reached puberty! I do have memories of these though...
