What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Thanks James, I hadn't played this one for years and it sounded good. Actually, the 500 mark was passed with The Jam - Portishead was 498, but still a milestone.
2,000 sounds a long way off at this moment though.

Nice one. I would have been a smidge young for the gig, my first gig was '74. But was into the album big time, superb versions of "Four Day Creep" and "Stone Cold Fever".
I had a lot of time for Steve Marriot, a tragic loss imo, and one of the true drivers of British music.

I keep meaning to buy a copy of their King Biscuit Live disc as Clempson had joined them and some Pie fans reckon it's as good if not better than Fillmore. If it is better it must be some disc.

The sound of "Big Sam" counting out his pay off (to a background of Joni Mitchell).

Is listening to Colin Davis and the Dresden Staatskappelle play Mozart (in particular the 40th Symphony) but it isn't having quite the desired relaxing effect. Suggestions welcome.

Dear Tam,
How about some solo piano? Rameau is just delightful. This is one of Hewitt's top discs:

Dear Haim,
Thanks - turns out some solo piano was what was called from. I'm not the biggest fan of Rameau and don't have the disc you mention, but Mitsuko Uchida is currently weaving her fingers across the keyboard in Mozart's K331 sonata, one of my favourites.

Compared with other XL Records offerings I have (principally the Badly Drawn Boy collection), the production quality of Rainbows is excellent!
It is because the pressing of the LP version of one of BDB's was so poor (much inherent surface noise) that stopped me form going for the vinyl version of Rainbows (also keeps my Radiohead in the same format).

I heard a wonderful song on Radio 2 called 'He thinks he'll keep her' and I found it on this album (vinyl)...

I cant decide if its my Castle Naim mixture but its just mud to me. I actually get that feeling I have a bad cold coming on when I listen to it. Its sounds better through the Linn for some odd reason.. I think I need to look at my set up and plan an upgrade.
