What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

This is pretty challenging and did not grab me when I first played. Disc 2 is pretty tough with the violin.

Just been for a swim in the pool with the kids jumping all over me. Now I am going to give the new 552 and 555PS a spin with some Pat Metheny before heading out for lunch with the family somewhere on the harbour - and to think I've been missing home recently...

Radiohead - Amnesiac. i know you all hate them but i dont. So there.
And it will sound even better when my 202/200 arrives.![]()
Are they the bunch that who supposedly had the best album of all time? Up to that vote I had not only not heard of the album but I had never heard of the band. Was it rigged?
Dont know to be honest, i dont follow their every album. Some people find them very up themselves but personally whether you like them or not, i dont find too many bands making music that is as original as that, as weird as some of it is. Still, each to their own.
Anyways at the mo its Beth Orton - Trailer park.

A beautiful piece of work

Beethoven symphony no.7 - Boult/French National Orchestra (courtesy of Fredrik). Not quite my favourite reading, but very fine none the less.

Schubert 9th symphony - Boult/BBCSO. Fredrik - this is a fantastic reading, despite the surface noise. Indeed, one of the finest I've ever heard. I shall have to investigate that BBC Legends 60s prom recording - in the hope it brings a similar level of musicality along with better sound

It sure is - not normally what I would play at 2.30 in the morning - more music for a sunny day! But good stuff it is and I am sure you will enjoy.
As I mentioned on the other thread when I was in New York about three years back I saw Bona playing with his own band in a tiny Cameroonian club. It was 5 pounds to get in and was like sardines. The club was about three metres wide and if you wanted to use the facilities you had to cut across the so called stage and Bona would lift up his electric bass so you could pass underneath to get by. Amazing to see a musician of that quality up so close and what a talent.
When I saw him with the Pat Metheny Group I thought his talents were somewhat under utilised.
Cheers

'.... more music for a sunny day! '
I play Bona more often than we have sunny days
I'd love to see him live but the chance hasn't come up yet.
