What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Bet mine's bloody marvellouser than yours, even though I've never consciously heard a note played by Rush. In fact, I'm off to start Steve Hillage all over again.
By the way, there's a great Q Classic magazine out at the moment on Prog Rock, which I think you'd enjoy. Your Rush fellows' album comes in at number 6 of all time greats.
Seriously, am I missing something?

in system used to listen through Graham then yes , you'll be a lot more marvellouser than me - very impressive set-up

indeed have the Q mag special edition but discovered Rush well before that mag told me they held 6th spot in prog rock hierarchy

are you missing something ? - well , if you like a bit of prog then I figure you'll find 'a farewell to kings' to your liking for the most part - IMO the trilogy of 2112 , a farewell to kings & hemispheres was their high point - the 2 albums thereafter , permanent waves & moving pictures 'aint half bad either albeit seeing them move in a slight different direction
never really like advising people as my range covers Abba to Radiohead with genres of prog , post-punk/alternative thrown in (Led Zep to Rush to Joy Division to The Cure - bit unusual in some peoples eys

fair point ! - you're a shade closer to to a life of werthers originals and tartan lap rugs than me , if only by assumed age differential ?
so long as I can stay out of a rest home (before lack of sanitary control & mental instability puts me there) in order to climb up the Naim ladder a touch then I'll be happy

You're not old enough to qualify to see what's over the hill. At 61 I am and I'll tell you what it's better than your side. Nah nah

Incidentally back on thread, Just been listening to:
The Bill Cunliffe Trio: "Live at Bernie's" Direct cut to disk 45rpm

Motor- Sweatbox / Yak
Stefan:
"Extrawelt : soopertrack / zu fuss"
This is an 4 track EP on Border Community, Ref 08BC.
There is a nice descriptive label, giving the bpm, the key and even a little graphic of the track dynamics.
It is german minimal tech house, produced by Arne Schaffausen and Wayan Raabe.
Much in the style of Robag Wruhme or Domonik Eulberg. I got mine from Tempest in Birmingham.
Samples here :

(Until Juno sell out of it!)

Najee is a surprise, Cobham beats the drums like fury and Carlton solos well against Clarke.
Listening right now to a Double LP picked up 2nd Hand
Count Basie "The kid from Red Bank"

Geoff,
Yep. On a CD still with the n-SATs/n-SUB. I moved from upstairs to downstairs.

If you like Stanley, have you gotten the 'At the Movie'?
It's a complication of his film work.
Try the first track on your 552/ 300.

Now, I'm listening to Sasha's 'grand national' on the 12" single on the LP12/ Grado.

"Let it Bleed", the reissued CD. Whole house is throbbing, as I'm home alone!
