What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi. Not seen that album in that jacket before.
It is one of what looks like a few selected jazz greats re-issued on a series called "Get back" from Abraxas Records.

Really sad to read the rumours of the demise of Marah version 7 - still long live Marah version 8 and whatever form that may take.

The Quays Theatre is the venue within The Lowry, the other "theatre" there being The Lyric, IIRC.

Well Haim ....There I am waiting patiently for the CD to come from JPC (on long delivery) when I bump into it on Vinyl...What a stroke of luck and the nice folks at JPC allow cancellation ....so I played it last night to finsh off the evening in peace.

You are right...superbly recorded piano beautifully played by this lady.

BTW they apparently used different mic's for the CD and the Vinyl version (recorded concurrently) and kept the LP version analog thru'out using high speed tape.

Thanks for the recommendation

Not played this in a while - what a great dance record. Brings back fond, if damp, memories of watching him at Murrayfield with only a carrier bag for rain gear!

ISB - Liquid Acrobat - still sounds as good as ever.

Geoff,

I am very glad you liked it. It is a great piano recording (and playing) done properly without any bells and whistles. I never had a chance to listen to the LP. I have the gold CD and I never stop playing it.

Other excellent piano recordings by the same label are:

Further Attempts (a jazz trio) M006A
Man From Plovdiv (Milcho Leviev, solo) M018A
Piano Music of Alberto Ginastera (Eduardo Delgado, solo) M038A

The first two discs are played on a Bosendorfer with its 'meaty' sound which is a real treat to the ear even with my basic Nait & 3.5. I am just trying to imagine how it would sound on your system...

Best regards,
Haim
