What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

PLAYGROUND BATTLE, by the kiwi group THE FEELERS.
Highly recommended, with the track STAND UP being selected as the theme song for the 18th New Zealand Scout Jamboree.

Played this loud, a few weeks ago for the first time in years. Really enjoyed it. Is this album one of those guilty pleasures?

Nah, for me it was ground breaking when it came out - loved it to bits, particularly the single and videos. Havent't heard it in years (as its on LP/12")

Can't argue with that.....There is just so much going on so many musical surprises.quote:Nah, for me it was ground breaking when it came out - loved it to bits, particularly the single and videos. Havent't heard it in years (as its on LP/12")

I think for me it goes back to having the mick taken by my less musically enlightened mates for likeing them.
Are my 50 minutes up yet?

A Real grower of an album - Shades of the spacier moments of the Dead, merged with everything from Spaceman 3and the V.U blended with a distinct Can influence. Only thing I can fault is it's not long enough...

The lieders or "Winterreise"?
I actually find them both brilliant, especially this version by Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore!! Will put the lieders on straight away.

Thanks Alan. Now I think I understand. This is not good for my self-esteem, but here I go again...

To finish off tonight's stroll down memory lane...
Hard to believe this was also 1977...Pastorius is memorable on his Teen Town.

Some of the fairly early lieder - I bought a 21 disc box of all their Schubert recordings for bargain price (around £30) a little while back and am still working my way through it. Haven't got to Winderreise yet, I think it's the last disc.

The above look like a happy bunch.
Does it show in there playing?

Munch,
It is good to hear from you. I am guessing that the smiles are just for the picture posing. I always thought that you had to be a suffering artist to be able to produce any kind of meaningful art work.
Their playing is graceful and passionate so I would say that they cannot not be too happy...
Regards from the cold,
Haim
