What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

In the car today:
1+1 / Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter / Verve

For Duke & Fatha / Bill Berry & His Elington All-Stars, Earl Hines / RealTime
Excellent playing as well as sound (LP much superior). Recorded direct-to-disc in 1978.

Wagner - Gotterdammerung. Haitink/BRSO. Would be good if Eva Marton's Brunnhilde wasn't so painfully bad

For the hay.
Partitas 1, 2, 4, and 6 of old Bach Walcha on an Ammer harpsichord.
Wonderful, warm, even exultant performances! Fredrik

Tam,
You're a man of great discernment! Does it sound well in SACD?

EW,
Actually, I don't have the SACD, but that was the only picture I could find (and even if I did, with my 5x it wouldn't make much odds).
FWIW the 12&17, their most recent release (which I saw them do in concert in 2004) is even finer.

(.......whispers in a very quiet voice..........)
Shakira's new album Oral Fixation 2.
Will this get me drummed out of the Forum?
In my defence:
(a) She's a hell of a sexy girl.
(b) She has a hell of a voice.

Again tonight.
Very good at my ears.

Wagner - Gotterdammerung. Haitink, et al. Act 3 and Siegfried's death/funeral music have been wonderful, sadly I fear Eva Marton is about to come on stage as Brunnhilde and spoil it all

I think this is either some of the most inventive music I've ever heard or else I don't like it all - not sure which, but it is difficult to be indifferent to the work of Edgar Varèse.
Yes - I think I do like it.

Kraftwerk - "Autobahn"
God, for something that is over 30 years old it still is ahead of its time IMHO.
Cant wait to try it on my forthcoming 202/200/napsc
