What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Lizz Wright is a favorite of ours- different cover from mine though! Should be a new CD out in the spring if you like her stuff. Her earlier CD 'Salt' is also good.
Different cover, here, too. Good stuff, and the new one is out, as we speak. Haven't heard, yet, though.

One of GFFJ's recommendations - only through the concerto so far but it is very engaging and vivacious with some sparkling piano playing.
Very nice - and ridiculously cheap on amazon marketplace if Adam allows me that advert.

wow, so there is a second listener of this CD, in this world. one of my favs. how do you like it, Ian ?
Your influence is wider than you know - you recommended this to me about 2 years ago on this very forum ! - I spotted the nice cover and asked you for a description of the music. On that basis I took a punt and bought it. I like it patchily. A few track are too far out of my westernized comfort zone but overall it was a good buy - thanks !

On Amazon.com there are two images for "Dreaming Wide Awake". This one apparently has extra tracks.
I have no prior experience of her and bought this based on discussions here. It was £8 so not too much for a punt into the unknown![]()
She is marvellous, I think I bought on Ian's recommend and it's one of my favourite albums of the last few years. Mrs Diccus loves it her music too

Good innit - I saw them on TV at Glastonbury or something - the only band from a dismal bunch that inspired me to seek them out in the shop as offering something a bit different.
Busy night for me on this thread !

Yep, sure is Ian - and never heard it sound so good before. Caught a glimpse of them at Reading this year, but going to see them properly at The Junction in cambridge Feb 13th with the added bonus of support from the lovely Emmy The Great. Can't wait!

Verdi - Il Trovatore
James Levine
Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus
on Sony Classical recorded 1991.
No idea if this rates as a good version or not as I'm not a classical buff but does it for me. Anyone in the know, feel free to comment...

Much better than watching the Republican candidates debate on TV, though those guys are definitely not less creative..

The un-naimed Camel Album (probably because it was the debut),
released Feb 1973.
I am really enjoying this album!
It's far too wet and windy to go out on the bike today...
but great inside my cosy central heated home for more
