What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Spirit of the Moment - Joshua Redman live at the Village Vanguard. This is my autographed by Joshua copy of the disc - signed at the Brecon Jazz festival

Played earlier on the way home from work in the car - the new CD from Joe Jackson. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how good this is. An enjoyable journey home.

Did you like it?
Yes It's not going to be on a lot, good chill out disc I think.
Meanwhile on the CDP:-

Great album, and what a fantastic track to start with.
I got the japanese pressing which is a little better than the standard.

Thought I'd try one of these Japanese Super High Material CDs from CDJapan. Can't say it differs from the SBM copy I already have, but maybe that was pretty un-representative.
Anybody tried any other SHM CDs? They have some good titles but most seem to be around in good sound anyway. It is only the plastic that differs, so no re-mastering. More snake oil perhaps?

Garbage
Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Loreena McKennitt
Julia Fordham
courtesy of a fellow forum member - they are all excellent, but I think the first listed stands out for me.

Hi Ewemon,
I might try another, I thought the DS would be a good test because I know it well. There are some classics in the series but if the mastering in untouched, I can't really see what's on offer.
Did we have a discussion on Free remasters once?
