What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

You keep hitting the bullseye as far as I am concerned. I must have something like 85% of the albums you post

Thanks Geoff - I was sitting here watching the football and thinking - 'some music would be better than this' but couldn't decide what. Great Album!

If you can sit still when listening to this one you're clinically dead!

'Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it now.
Say it, say it, say it, say it, say it, say it, say it now.'
As ever, great lyrics from the Chip.

...Ok I know this was played to death in every HIFI shop in the land on it's release and for years afterwards .....but I'd forgot how great this album was AND it really does still sound crackin' (on the black stuff of course!)

.....Yeah I LOVE the Feat as well ..I saw them on Lowell's final tour with them in Newcastle back in the deep 70's - but I wondered O high priest of sound quality ..what's their best sounding album in your humble opinion?

..more black stuff ...
Best known for their classic single "Dirty Water" this is a perfect "hey let's do a covers album" long before Bowie did Pin Ups or Lennon did Rock and Roll ....and all done in their usual garage band stylee ..sort of Vanilla Fudge without the histronics!

....Which led me to dig this out ...more covers included on this one as well ...The Beatles Rain being especially groovy ....and wasn't Mr California a very underated guitarist? ...I think someone's popped something into me cocoa tonight!

God Jet you've dropped me in it this time. Personally I think the very 1st Jap pressings are IMHO the best for sound. I also have the Mofi s/t disc but haven't really played it much for awhile.
The Japanese discs are very smooth sounding and a little touch more open but the difference between them and the original WG's is minute and not really spending the extra cash on.
My favourite Little Feat disc has always been Last Record but always thought that Feats was for me the best sounding.
I have to say I ain't that keen on the Jap remasters thought they were given the loudness treatment too much.

I have a pressing of this album that was done by NIMBUS for HiFi News some time way back along with an Earl Klugh record.
These seem to be excellent but not easy to come by now. They have a sticker on the LP sleeve with NIMBUS on it.

Geoff

A very warm and entertaining sound and a couple of hours well spent with Herr Mozarts wunderbar musik. I've just noticed the price of this box set has gone up to £25.49, not that it isn't worth this extra... amazon must have read all the fine reports about this box-set on this news-group! : )

I had quite a few of the Nimbus discs at one time Geofff. Fleetwood Mac, Doobies etc. Never knew they had done one of Feats. If I had done I would have bought it immediately.
Just love the Feats.

The Rhino remastering for the 'Hotcakes and Outtakes' box was pretty much beyond reproach, though the box was a wasted opportunity; ditto the sound for 'Columbus'. Such a shame they haven't properly remastered all the albums from scratch.
