What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Nic....I think anything by them is worth getting. The St Lucia one is well recorded with a non intrusive and attentive audience and has some nice slightly 'show offy' but nevertheless musically great numbers. It is also nice to hear an english voice annoucing on the record "This way" is quite recent and reflects the maturing of the band. Obviously they make sure the formula attracts but it has depth. Recently I have been listening again to a couple of others which are good plus one of the ones you do have.quote:Originally posted by Geoff P:

quote:The LP version sounded fab on my sondec some years back, but the @2003 'Enhanced' CD i recently purchased is nothing but a two-dimensional wall of sound designed to make ones ears bleed...
On a second attempt of playing this cd i got as far as half way though 'it's alright for you' track 3... i could take no more so i put it on the shelve to gather dust.
Nigel, i hope you've enjoyed the vinyl? : )
The customer reviews on amazon are 5 star for the Enhanced CD so have i bought a duff copy or are their lots of deaf people out there? ; )
I totally agree. I have the enhanced CD and the sound quality is very poor. I used to have the vinyl, which was way better. Still, the songs are good, and it's listenable at a modest volume. A shame that remastering is so often for the worse.

Munch
munch I like it but it is not your usual run of the mill Cooder album. It is old time jazz from the 20's-30's.

On vinyl...nice.
The volume is creeping up and the 250's getting warm, I may have to get the 140 out in case I need a blood replacement...

On vinyl too, volume creeping up and wine breathing in the kitchen. Hello weekend.

I just can't get over the sound of the guitar - the riffs are great. I have no problem with Craig Finn's vocals (they have been described as a rambling drunk at a bar) but I know some don't like them.
I prefer this album to the more popular 'Boys and Girls...' meant to be a real treat live if you get a chance.
Cheers
