What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Munch
munch I like it but it is not your usual run of the mill Cooder album. It is old time jazz from the 20's-30's.
Munch
Hi Munch,
A couple or under-rated Ry albums IMO.

This album ROCKS
Can't say I had ehard this lot munch but just went and put them down for buying. Notice the singer doesn't sing much. Does that get irratating?
I just can't get over the sound of the guitar - the riffs are great. I have no problem with Craig Finn's vocals (they have been described as a rambling drunk at a bar) but I know some don't like them.
I prefer this album to the more popular 'Boys and Girls...' meant to be a real treat live if you get a chance.
Cheers

Apologies for calling you munch worm, I actually went and ordered Separation and Boys just for something different.

Steve if you want some good recorded Blues albums.
One set to go for is Chris Rea's Blue Guitars
book set.Look on Geoff's Chris Rea thread.
Its a must have IMO.
Munch
Boomers Story is my all time fav Ry Cooder album.
Reagrds Jazz munch it doesn't have the slide guitar all over it. If that is what you mean.

Further North Steve in Nairn.
Did I see a post from you re Free remasters? I have one Jap first pressing of Free- Live which is very good sounding. But won an auction on eBay one day for a first PDO pressing of Tons of Sobs. Unfortunately had to send it back because it was suffering from cd rot. But before I had returned it I won another auction for a pressing which turned out to be one of the Island Master series. The original pressing just blew away the Island Master away. I hadn't heard Free so good apart from the Jap Live disc.
I have all the Jap Island Master pressings apart from Tons and s/t.
Personally I play the reamsters in the car and I think they sound fine.

Hi,
Yes I have the Island remasters and I find them fine. Better than the ones that rotted, it could be a system thing. Great band though, still my ultimate favourites.

Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesus Christ. Bach arr Busoni. Edwin Fischer. Recorded in Berlin by a certain gentleman, at a time when the Europe was crying out for peace. A cry for peace, in a world, gone mad, perhaps!

This is a very enjoyable listen. Very good interpretations of Joni Mitchell classics and a superb sounding CD. On Linn Records - Ian Shaw
