What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Everyone who likes Ali Farka Toure should give the Justin Adams album a listen. He's reckoned to be the UK Ry Cooder. Must say it is an excellent disc.

Howard what do you think?

An inoffensive piece of music. Slightly clinical presentation. Therefore a typical Eagles album, good musicianship and tight vocals.8.5+/10.

The other day on the way into the Gherkin, Down in the Sewer came straight on after Gary Gilmore's Eyes by the Adverts. Sometimes you just have to love the Shuffle function on the iPod.

Can you recommend a couple of albums as a starting point for her? I really liked her in Matt Bianco. Is her solo work in a similar jazz-funk-ish stlyee?

Thanks
Graham.

Graham....The two above are pretty good. Yes her jazz funkish style is there and she mostly sings stuff she wrote herself which really fits with her rather unique voice. Quality backing players with some nice solo touches. Very easy to listen to and appreciate.

Munch - am normally in there one week a month.

A very interesting building, but to be honest not much to see other than office space until you get to the "Top of the Building." Then there is a nice bar and restaurant with a fantastic view.

To keep on thread, just finished listening to Welcome to the Arizona by the Felice Brothers

It came at the weekend Munch. Like the other JJ albums, pure class. I need to let it settle in with a few listens until I decide where it sits in the JJ scheme of things, but as usual with him, it just hooks you in on the first play.
