What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

The MFSL Cafe Blue is exceptional, well worth getting.

I'll look out for it. Some joker on amazon.co.uk is trying to get 310 pounds for that disc. I think I'll be happy with the regular one at that price

Listening to this on SACD, the CD layer and I have got to say this is probably one of the best sounding recordings I have ever heard. The piano sounds phenomenal and to think it was recorded back in the early 70's. So impressive.

I have this on Vinyl. I have to agree the piano is 'in the room'

This is also excellent though not quite such an outstanding piano sound. Made up for though by the superb way Oscar plays here
I have it on Vinyl - though available also as an SACD/CD

Last nights menu:-
Started off with.......................................................
after seeing it on this post, have always fancied dipping my toes into the Hold Steady water but have resisted thus far with the exception of a free itunes single 'Stuck between Stations' with the marvellous lines " she was a really cool kisser and she wasn't all that strict of a christian.
she was a damn good dancer but she wasn't all that great of a girlfriend" The single sounded like a car crash version of something from 'Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ", overly wordy and great for it.
Anyways they sound great and a bit lively for the evening so it's it's onto the day menu for the carpod.
Followed by the 2nd listening of 'the pirate's gospel' which is great and think it may appeal to Sir ROTF of this parish, if he hasn't already succomed and if can drag himself away from the Floppy hatted one's album with the extra track.
Then the only other possibility for a quiet night on the couch with my wife and the Sov Blonc is the marvellous.........................
which many of us in the know
already know is a dream on an album.
Oh and damn I forgot about KDLang on the telly

Second time in about a week - funny how you lose sight of some music for years, and then develop a thirst for it again.

Only played the first 4 tracks so far munch to compare it with the CD ,No surface noise so far ,no warping ,seems louder & more dynamic, more of an edge to the vocal, than the CD LP12 /Rega Planet .....Jim

Bennie Maupin plays the bass clarinet, sax, alto flute and piano. The rest of his ensemble does bass, drums and percussion.
Stefan & Adrian, thanks for the recommend.
